But I was thinking of getting an IMS brand or Clarke. As I had a Acerbis one years ago (think it was a multi fit xr600) and really didn't rate the fitment.

I bought a 2K xr 400 two years ago. It was real finiky to start. Then my cam chain started to make sounds, sound like a bad wrist pin bearing. I ordered a cam chain and while the top end was off I put in valve seals, bored it to the first over, added a Wi piston(11.5-1) I think. It starts all the time first kick if the temp is above 50.

Sunday I got to ride a totally stock DRZ 400 for the first time. The DRZ did have Moose Hi-cr bend bars mounted on it. I liked the DRZ much better for turning. It felt more like an mx bike (narrower) for flicking it through the trees. The XR had more low-end grunt, for lifting the front wheel over ruts and logs.
Tighten up the plug and move on to drilling out the new hole. You will need to be accurate with your drilling here. The 90 is a press in fitting. The correct drill bit needed is a 15/32". Easily found in most hardware stores or possibly where you bought the 1/4" plug for the previous step.
Thanks. the tank itself fit "ok" but the overall finish of the tank was pretty bad compared to the factory tank. So I actually sanded off all the seams and re polished the tank so you can't see any join marks on it. After doing that I'm actually really pleased with it. Plus personally I think the oversize tank looks better than the stock.
